Kehlani — Crash Tour
Kehlani’s Crash Tour is an experience that I will never forget. The start of the night kicked off with her openers, Anycia and British girl group FLO. The openers set the tone and made sure that everyone was excited for Kehlani to come out. Kehlani ended up performing 30 songs out of 3 albums, totaling just over 2 hours of show time. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed every second of it. The first song of the night was “Next 2 You” wearing the first outfit of the night, an all-black ensemble with “Crash” written on her shirt. Kehlani captivated the crowd and myself with her stunning vocals and lively dancing. So full of energy that you could tell that this was where she was meant to be. Always making sure to give love to the people who support her on stage. In addition to all of this, the screen behind her allowed more visual interest for the audience, from spotlighting Kehlani so people in the back on the lawn could see her to trippy AI visuals and even stained glass. All of these together allowed for audio and visuals to blend seamlessly. There were some complications at her show, a couple of people passed out and Kehlani quickly informed venue security and made sure the crowd got the water they needed. There was also a fight that broke out in which Kehlani announced to the crowd, “If it gets unsafe, everybody passing out and then everybody is fighting, we’re not helping the situation. . . safety comes first at my shit for real. . .” I appreciated Kehlani’s concern for the crowd and her desire to preserve a safe and fun environment for her fans. It isn’t easy out here in the Texas heat. Once everything seemed to calm down she quickly recovered and jumped into the next song. There was an outfit change during the show Kehlani came out adorned in a latex top and black bottoms, the outfit she would stay in for the rest of the set. She also sang a multitude of covers during her show that included, “Ring” by Cardi B, “Kehlani” by Jordan Adetunji (a song I was very excited to hear performed live), and even had an engagement during her cover of “Marry You” by Bruno Mars. Everyone on stage worked so well together, from the guitarist and his multiple enthralling solos to the absolute fun of Kehlani with her dancers. She concluded with “After Hours” and as the lights went up in the amphitheater, I almost couldn’t leave, I was stuck in place enchanted by her and the performance. If you have the opportunity to see Kehlani on tour I highly suggest jumping at the chance.
